Thank you for your interest in the Commonwealth’s “Every Body Move” campaign, a collaborative effort to increase public awareness about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle by taking part in regular physical activity. We have a crisis with America’s health. Experts agree that the first step in combating this problem is to promote active healthy lifestyles that will keep people living longer, more productive lives.
The Massachusetts Governor’s Committee on Physical Fitness & Sports, with the support of Senate President Travaglini and House Speaker DiMasi, is committed to developing programs for the citizens of the Commonwealth that will begin to address this national epidemic. Through the development of the Every Body Move public awareness campaign and grant program, we hope to inspire people all across the state to engage in regular fitness-related activities. Working together, we can create a healthier Massachusetts.
This new online resource will offer information on the benefits of exercise, recommend activities and promote existing health and fitness programs. I encourage you to check it often. And remember, exercise!
Sincerely,
Governor Mitt Romney
As part of the umbrella Every Body Move campaign, the MGCPFS in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Education created the grant program, to provide Massachusetts public schools funding to create, enhance or sustain opportunities for physical activity for children ages 8 to 14. These grants were designed to complement existing programs in schools and provide funding and resources to create new programs or fitness opportunities where they may not exist. Twenty-six inaugural grants were given to schools across the state. These grants will create 17 new programs and sustain or enhance nine others. The 2007 grant application will be available in January of 2007.
The second annual Star & Strikes celebrity bowling tournament was held at Kings in Boston on June 22nd.
